cci157shotgun primer vs. 209.

anybody know the difference between the two. i bought a reloader out of business, he had a quanity of these, would like to know if 157 is as hot as209 , and if its possible to use these in a black powder rifle with equal results.

  its been years since i loaded 157's. but if i remember correctly, the 157 is hotter than 209's. and too, the 157 doesnt have a primer flash hole cap. the problem with the 157's was powder could get down it the flash hole. old technology. they will fire, but just be careful.

  they are smaller in size an will not work where 209 does but some times you will get some small hole an you can use them

  why do i keep thinking of something called a star 57, when i think 157? is this the primer that we are talking about? the *57? anyway, i think or old primer buyer should find an old loading manual for proper receipes. what do you think?

  REMINGTON SHOT SHELLS USED TO USE A SLIGHTLY SMALL PRIMER THAN THE REST OF THE U.S. (THE *57 OR CCI 157) IF YOU ATTEMPT TO USE THESE IN A NEWER REM. OR ANY OTHER SHOT SHELL THEY WILL BE A LOOSE FIT OR MAY FALL OUT. MANY RELOADERS JUST USED THE 209 SIZE PIMERS IT THE OLDER REM. HULLS AS THEY WERE CLOSE ENOUGHT FOR GOV. WORK (JUST A LITTLE EXTRA FORCE NEEDED TO SEAT THEM THE FIRST TIME).
