What designates weather a rem 700 is LA or SA?
What designates weather a rem 700 is Long Action or Short Action? Would a youth model in 308 be a short action? The reason Im asking is I kinda like the looks of the Choate stocks but Im not sure which if any will fit the youth model. As far as I have been able to find out, the youth model ADL is the same as a regular ADL only with a 1" shorter stock and a 20" barrel so it should fit a choate ADL stock.

About a 1/2" difference in length. What bugs me is that the 700 SA and the Model 7 won't take the same rear sight mounts. They will take the same front mounts.

Does it say on the barrel or somewhere else if its a long or short action or is it simply by caliber? I looked on the Rem website and couldn't find anything.

you just gotta know by caliber i believe. or assk a gunsmith. 308=SA. 30.06=LA

Maggithecat nailed it .308 down is the SA. 270, 30-06 and the like up is the LA. gw. 0 -
The short action magnums and calibers based on the .308win length case are shortaction while the 30-06, .270, and the big belted and ultra mags are long action. The youth adl IS the same rifle as the full size adl. Shorter length of pull and shorter barrel. The choate stock will fit that rifle as long as the stock is designated remington 700SA. It will NOT however fit the model 7.
