Can a winchester model 12 12 gauge 2 3/4" chamber be modified ( have chamber lenghtened) to shoot 3" shells
The reason i ask is i own a model 12 roit gun (watts commemorative edition[:D]) which is in like new condition. I would like to purchase a extra barrel/ mag, forearm which i see a lot of on ebay. I would like to have a spare duck gun realize the new set up will have to be fitted .What i really wanted was a 12 heavy duck
    thanks rp

ALL 'Y' SERIES ARE POST 64. THIS WAS WINCHEWSTERS ATTEMT TO GET BACK THE BUSINESS THEY LOST POST 64. I BELIEVE THEY WHERE MADE IN THE '70'S.

Rockton, Mike is right all "y" Md 12's are post 64. the Olin corp. bought Winchester I believe in 1929 or there abouts and had it until late 1982 at which time they sold to USRA. I've only seen "Y's" in 12ga, they came in Field ,Skeet and Trap versions, along with Pigeon grades. In 1964 Winchester kept enough parts in the "Custom Shop" for 12, 16 and 20 ga. guns to be made up on special order. These were custom guns made to the Customers requirements, and there are very few of them. I've seen several over 30 years, Winchester did a parts clean up in 64, 65 and 66 ending at serial number 1970875. The "custom guns" guns were above that serial number. The "Y's" started with Y2000100, in 1972 when they were introduced. In the early 84 under USRA Md 12's were once again offered in a limited offer in Pigeon grade in 12 guage only. Then in the late 80s early 90s USRA contracted with Miruko (Sp) to make a limited run of 20ga, and the Md 42 in a limited run. These have no "Y" in the serial number and on the right side of the barrel it has "Made in Japan"

There are a few "y" Model 12s floating around at auction "New in the Box". Prices usually start about $800 and go up fast. the "Y" models will not command the value like a pre 64. So don't get caught spending to much!! Regards Dave
