Question about Glock and Springfield Armory

I am getting ready to buy a handgun, I have looked at a Glock 17 and Springfield Armory XD 4 inch 9 mil. does anyone know, wich would be the better purchase I own one gun now a Llama sub com. 45 it has a lot of recoil, I like the looks and feel of the Springfield XD, is it a better gun than the Glock? Which gun would be better just to go to the range and shoot?

Any help would be appreciated thanks,

  David..... Both the Glock and Springfield are good choices. I have shot both but lean toward the Glock since it is what I carry at work and use in competition.
  
  The springfield has some features that Glocks dont, such as a "grip" safety, a loaded chamber indicator and striker status indicator.
  
  It all boils down to personal preference. What feels good to you, and what you shoot better with. I like Glocks for their ease of use, and the fact that the line of the bore is lower in relation to the hand which is a help in lessening muzzle whip when shooting.

  I like both. Though you could say the Glock maybe more time tested & proven. I agree with lefty, go with what feels best in your hand. Most indoor ranges ought to have the Glock for rent, doubt they would have the XD. Go shoot the Glock and see how it feels.

  Hey thanks for the help guys i will go to a range and see if i can rent a glock shoot it and see how comfortable it shoots. Before i make up my mind.

  I suspect that the Springfield will steal some sales from folks who would otherwise buy a Glock. I own a Glock 30 and I absolutely love it--and I am not a fan of polymer guns.

  I have a ported XD .40 cal and I carry it daily. Nice to shoot quite accurate with double tap due to porting.
  
  Having said that the finish SUCKS. All edges are worn from holster and the rear end of the slide is worn from rubbing on shirt sleeve.

  I don't like polymer guns. I have a PPK/S which doesn't shoot straight, and a ten year old Colt Double Eagle Commander size (5" brl) in 40 S&W which is absolutely a pleasure to shoot. However, my next "new" gun purchase will be a Smith and Wesson 908S.
  
  It has the lifetime warrenty, it is slim, all metal, and fits my hand with a smile.
  Holds 8+1 9mm.
  
  Another looker is the Springfield Mil-Spec, a .45.
