I will try to post an image but I just aquired a rifle I know nothing about, It is marked US Property on the top of the reciever and S No4 Mk1 on the side and nothing else but a serial number. Any ideas?
It has a full stock and a tapered magazine, If you e-mail me I can send pictures, Thanks! Marc

Can you post some pictures of the rifle and action?

This is way over my head, but it this is a gun with an original Harry Pope barrel, it has some value.

If it is a Pope, it won't be in 7mm or .30-06 though. More likely something like .32-20 or .32-40.

Xracer the gun is at the gunsmith getting a chamber cast made. Won't have it back until Monday. Did some more research on it and it looks to me like it's a mauser action with the bolt customized with the Winchester two stage safety on it. It is indeed a H.M. Pope barrell because when I took the stock off to find more markings, it was stamped Mfg by H.M.Pope with the date (forgot to write the date down), and other stampings. I would like to know what gunmaker built it. Jaeger is on the trigger only. Paul Jaeger was a well known gunmaker from Jenkinstown Pa. He's passed as well as Pope. The initials on the trigger guard are interesting DLP. Any help you can get me is appreciated. The seller wants $800 for it because she had it appraised 5 years ago for that price and the appraiser put the $8oo tag on it with unknown maker. Oh well!!

OK.....so I guess this is one of his later barrels so it could be a 7 or .30-06.

Most of his earlier stuff was made on single-shot Ballard or Rolling Block actions.
