Merkel o/u
I've been looking at an old Merkel 20 gauge over/under. I'd say it is at least 85%. Has maybe scroll work on maybe 10%-15% of the receiver. The owner says it was made in 1947. I'm not sure of the model. Owners asking $900. I think I can grind him down to $850. Sound reasonable? Would I be better off with a Marlin or well used Red Label? I've been looking for a lower priced =Less than $1000 o/u for skeet and grouse.

Depends upon which MERKEL you're dealing on....The cheapest Merkel is worth at least $1000.00.....after that they start getting serious Money......I think I'd give the Man His $900.00 and scoot....!

The value is there and as the captain says "grab it".
It will not have removable chokes.
I believe this gun is close to 6 1/2# so the barrels will probably be thick enough to have them installed if you need the versatility of multiple chokes.
This gun came in either SST or double triggers.0 -
Quality guns (which this is) always have good resell value and are easy to sell, if you didn't over pay in the beginning. In the condition you stated and that price it's a good deal. Just make sure the gun is original. If altered that wil affect the value of the gun. 0 -
