Which Savage 17HMR ??

Planning to purchase a Savage 93 in 17HMR. BassPro has the standard blued for $160; heavy barrel blued for $180; and SS for $220.

Which one should I buy? Why? Are these prices good?

  Prices are reasonable for retail; which is best depends on what you want to do with it. Heavy barrel will probably shoot better (tighter groups), stainless is easier to care for.

  I have the standard blue with camo stock and i can pop varmints at 150 easily with it.

  I have the 93 heavy barrel stainless in 22 magnum...same gun different chambering. I would go with the heavy barreled model for which the receiver has been drilled and tapped and Savage includes a weaver style scope base. VERY solid set up for a scope. These rifles (rimfires) see A LOT of range and field time because they are so economical to shoot (well, 17HMR ammo will cost less as more mfrs begin producing it).
  
  My Savage will group inside of 3/4" at 100 yds with it's favorite Lot number of CCI Gold Dot ammo (50 gr., hard, linotype bullet). GREAAAT fox/coyote medicine (coyote at close range). Savage trigger is pretty stiff (I will work on it) but their rimfire barrels shoot as straight as their centerfires. I waited for Savage to begin producing a 93 in 17HMR before I would buy one. I also never buy the first production units of a firearm, tool, or vehicle...so I am now ready for a SS Model 93 in 17HMR myself!!!

  I bought a 93 about a month ago in 17 HMR. And I love it. Inch and a half groups at 150 yrds price of the rifle is affordable but ammo is $9.50 a box in my area.

  rinkydink, welcome to the boards. As squirrel chaser pointed out ammo is a little high now. In southwestern Ohio we can get 50 round boxes for $7.50 a box. I hear that Winchester and some others will be manufacturing the ammo soon. You CANNOT go wrong with a Savage. Buy the one(blued or stainless) that has the heavy barrel and is drille and tapped.

  I just bought and sold from my Gun Shop 6 .17 Savages
  Combo thats with Scope 3x9 my cost was 185.90 plus
  shipping 17.00 my total was 202.00. I have nothing but

  Bought the heavy barrel stainless with a composite stock. Now to mount a 3 X 9 X 40 Leupold Vari-X II to see what it will do.
  
  Sure it will shoot as good as the guy holding it.

  Like the others have said Good shooters! If ya do get one, GHD turned me on to the Rifle Basix trigger http://riflebasix.com Well worth the money! Its adjustable from 2oz to 2 LBS. and has Zero creep! and you can install it in about 1/2 hour (playing with the weight etc.) and the instructions are very clear.
