Auto Shotgun

Im looking to buy an automatic 12 ga. shotgun. I am looking at the remington 1100 and stoegers auto. What do you think about these. I cant afford the browings or anything like that. Thanks for your opinion.

  CAN'T GO WRONG WITH A REMINGTON. BEEN USING ONE FOR 40 YEARS.

  Hunter223, Remington 1100 is a good gun to start with. I shot one for a lot of years. Bought a Browning gold about 3 years ago and it fits me so much better than the 1100. My suggestion, go to the largest gun store in your area, take your favorite hunting coat with you. Shoulder a 1100, Browning, or what ever is in your price range. A lot of people buy a gun without trying to shoulder it with there coat on, it makes a difference! Also think of parts availability. Choke tubes, gas seals. An off brand will be harder to find these parts, but Rem. Brn. Beretta, these all are pretty easy to find parts for.

  If you're buying new, then my nod goes to the 1100 in that price range. However, if you're considering used models, then I'd like to add a few more to it.
  Any Ithaca or Ithaca/SKB models - especially the gas-operated ones. A Winchester 1400. Both these models are a LOT like the 1100 and can often be had for 1/2 of what the 1100 is going to cost you. This would get you into shooting cheaper than the 1100. However, it sure is hard to beat an 1100 as far as parts availability. As far as I know they still make parts for every model 1100 sold (even parts for my beloved .410).
  If this is your first shotgun, or if you are just getting into waterfowl or upland hunting then a pump isn't a bad way to go either. Benelli makes a nice one that shoots everything from 2 3/4" - 3 1/2", it's called the Nova. Mossberg also makes the 835 Ultra_Mag that does the same thing.
  It sounds like it is out of your immediate price point, but at a later time I'd sure recommend the Benelli Super Black Eagle. It was the first semi-auto that could shoot 2 3/4", 3", or 3 1/2" mags in any order. They have a very nice recoil system that is an absolute breeze to clean and a person can also buy a slug barrel for it (as you can with the 1100) to make a nice deer gun too. At one time, I had quite a few 12 gauge shotguns, now I only have one - the Super Black Eagle with a 28" barrel.
