Unertl scopes

what is going on with unertl and their target and varmint scopes?Are they going to make them again? Larry

  A very fine old company from Pittsburgh. Dad had one on model 99 savage which would fog up and we would bake it in oven to remove fog. I sent it gack and told them to keep it if they could't fix it. They fixed it free of charge and is still in use. Must be 50 years old.

  These are very good scopes. The company has been in business a very long time. As for the foging mentioned by gccam, this was common in scopes made that long ago. They were not sealed and inert gas filled as they are now. tempeture chages could and aften did cause them to fog up. They arent seen at most gun shops these days, mainly because they are bit spendy, when compared to the run of the mill scopes most carry.

  Countershaft....there are better scopes out there now; but none with as much class as an Unertl. They are still very popular with the bench rest crowd....but no matter what you will always get your money out of them if you decide to sell it after obtaining one. Beach

  I first heard of them when I read the book about Carlos Hathcock, the marine sniper with 93 confirmed kills. I guess that at that time, they were the standard military issue scope. He even mounted one on a .50 rifle for 2500 yard kills. Pretty impressive. I have never actually seen a Unertl though.

  The older, commercial scopes are very much treasured by their owners. If you find one for sale, it is generally a significant(for me) amount of money. But by comparison, they are really no more expensive than the new top of the line, quality scopes. Use this link for Unertls for sale.
