Jap Browning A-5 Light 12
Fellas, I just don't see a lot of comparables on the lots for this, but today I came close to buying a fairly clean one with 28" (I think) barrel, VR, flat knob, ** modified (pre-Invector I guess) for $350.00 private sale, from a neighbor, no paperwork. Minor nicks here and there but clean and shiny, inside and out, slick with 3-in-1 oil. I don't want it for myself and haven't found any family interested in it. It really is a nice shotgun. Do you think the $350.00 is too close to retail for me to buy it to make a few bucks reselling it? Now, how's that for coming clean and divulging my real intentions on this one? If I thought there were reasonable expectations of selling it for $400.00 I might do it - that's about a 15% gain, but my base may be too high. What do you think? Thanks, Jim

I think $350 is just about tops for the gun--no room for profit. However, if you set up at large gunshows and let thousands of folks see it, who knows--someone might give you $400.
Most people like the invector chokes now days. If it had them, it might be a better deal.
By the way: When you buy a gun with the principle purpose of selling for profit, technically, in the eyes of the ATF, you are dealing in guns. And to deal in guns, the ATF thinks you need to have a FFL in order to do it legally.

Yikes Rafter, Thanks for the reply. You are so right as to the FFL and reselling. Where went my mind? Like one of my nephews once said, "Uncle Jim, do you have old-timers?" Well, now if I can just figure out how to edit that posting. Hmmm

The ATF have bigger fish to fry than you.
Don't worry about the edit. Leave it for some of the other guys who entertain the same idea. It may head off some umpleasant situation for them.

I think you can turn a profit with this gun if you buy it at $350. The light 12 is hard to find around here.

$350.00 isn't a bad price, but A-5's are regional for some reason. Around here chokes will make little difference and the gun should bring somewhere in the $500.00 range.
As to the sale and intended resale of the gun, I wouldn't get too concerned. ATF is interested in GUNS, not A gun. And what one of us doesn't turn over a piece of property at profit from time to time?
Is your gun worth $400.00 in your area? I don't know. All I can say is that the piece is well worth the asking price.
