Silhouette scopes ?

What make and power scope would you use for silhouette shooting matches, 100 -500 meters .?

  I'm assuming that at 500M; you'll be using a rifle or long-barreled pistol with a bolt action.
  If you're shooting the former; Leupold, Burris, Nikon, Redfield are good quality, (relatively)inexpensive, and offer repeatability for elevation & wind doping. Ideally, it should be at least 10X on the top end, and around 4-6X on the bottom.
  For a pistol; you want something that won't weigh you down over the course of 40 shots + sighters + shoot-off rounds if you tie.
  You'll probably want something with long-to-medium eye relief if you use the Creedmore position or Standing, with around a 3-9X and at least a 30mm tube. The larger objective lenses are gonna need high rings.

  Countersharft;
  Rifle or pistol???? It makes a great deal of difference. At the ranges you mention it could be either. For a rifle, Nikon, Leapold, redfield, would be good choices in the (relatively) inexpensive range. Pistols,,, Same again. If you can afford a bit more for a scope.
  I'd go with a Ziess or Swarovski for either. As previously stated the larger objective lens will require taller mounts. DON"T schimp on the mounts or the good scope becomes a cheap scope. The bases and rings are as important as the glass.

  Weaver offered a "T" series, at one time, and were well liked. Have a 20X and 25X, if interested. Also, a 24X Luepold. As the power goes up, the mirage goes with it. My 2cents from NW Wy. GW.
