Does anyone have experiance with\knowledge about shepherd scopes? Are they as rugged, as easy to zero, and as easy to use for range finding as their ads indicate? I am looking to scope a DPMS LRT 308 SASS.

They work well for ranging, but (like ALL balistic comp scopes) the drop comp feature will only work well if it is closley matched to your rifle/ammo combo. To get the best match follow the following steps
    1) Find the load that works best in your rifle.
    2) Chronograph that load out of your rifle.
    3) Call Shepherd with the BC of the bullet, and the actual MV from your rifle. High BC bullets like the Balistic tips, and hot handloads realy throw off there "recogmended for" charts (I have to use the 300Win pattern on my 30-06 to get the best match).
They will recogmend the closest retical pattern to your actual balistics, along with whatever adjustments need to be made to get you the longest effective range IE: set the 100yd impact 1.5" high to be 1" low at 600 (or whatever it works out to be in your rifle)

Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    Great glass. Works as advertised.

Shepherd has already factored alot of trajectories into reticle patterns, since there are some that can cross over.

No rifle will exactly match most BDC reticles, unless evertything is exactly the same. You'll still need to make adjustments as you create a drop chart for ultra long range shooting.

Look on Shepherds web site for an expanded chart, or email me,.... jabsao@msn.com and I'll email you the list.
    It's really very simple.

These are high quality scopes with some nice features, but look before you buy. I find the sight picture cluttered and difficult to focus through because of the BDC features. It may not bother you at all, but it would be good to know before you shell out some respectable bucks.

Would lile to help explain the comment of "sight picture cluttered".

This reticle is designed for accurate short & long range hunting.
Up to 300 yards it is an open field. Beyond that the retcile is correctly sized for game, especially for a 40mm objective with a 1" tube.
Anytime you're ranging at 3X to 10X with most every other scope the target will get BIGGER, and the reticle will get smaller. Especially at looooong distances.
    Not with the Shepherd.
You must first adjust it to correctly see the reticle. If it's not, then you won't see correctly as intended.
Try it, put it thru it's paces, not just pick it up and look thru it.

Only two instances where it may seem clutterd as He Dog said.
First, is if it's not adjusted correctly.
Second, there is a PE reticle for Elk, that is in meters, and the circles do over lap. That's the only one I don't stock.

If you can't see with a Shepherd, and you miss,...reread the ops manual, spend time at the range...practicing.
If you still miss, tell me where you hunt, I won't get near there.

G&G, I find the circles distracting and consider them clutter. Obviously many others do not, that is why I suggested look before buying. Nothing at all wrong with the scopes, probably my old eyes.

    He Dog,
    No offense intended. My apology.
My comments at times can be a little sterile, direct to the point.

No doubt in my mind that if almost any one taks a look thru the 24" circles, yours and my eyes will both be going in circles.
    Two sets of 'tired eyes'.

I have 2, the P1 and the P2. Great scopes, ruggad as hell, and very easy to use once you figgure it out. Great for hunting, especially if you make long range shots. Not too great for target shooting, but well worth the money. Get 1, you won't be dissapointed.
