Mauser rifle suggestions
I am interested in purchasing a Mauser rifle but there are so many different types and countries of origin I don't know which ones are the best or which ones should be avoided. I would prefer a carbine sized rifle that I could target shoot frequently, which Mauser would be best for me???

Look for the VZ24 rifle. Carbine size, accurate, and dependable. They are still available around $100,+/-.

An Israeli 98k in .308 (7.62 NATO) offers a much more historical rifle with the added benefit of cheaper and more readily available calibre.

I am fond of the Swedish Mauser. You can get a M38 carbine for a couple hundred bucks. Very accurate. Non corrosive military ammo, very accurate, available from Samcoglobal.com for 37 cents a shot.
That is expensive milsurp, but it is very good milsurp.0
