Baretta ??

I recently bought a mod.34 Baretta dated 1941. It has what appears to be a new barrel.
My question is just how tight should the barrel be in its mount?
I can hold this gun pointing straight up & shake it, then turn it upside down, & the barrel will fall out. I'm sure this isn't right but can't think of a cure for it.
Any & all help would be greatly appreciated.

  I have a Beretta 418 from 1956. It is very similar to the 34, and they are taken down pretty much the same way. You say that the barrel falls out... is this when the slide is back? When I take mine down, I pull the slide back and then have to push on the tip of the barrel in order to pop it out of its grooves and push it out the top. It stays in there snug, but not too snug. It will not however just fall out unless i apply some pressure to get it out. The best way I can describe how it is held in is... well kinda like a dovetail sight is held in place. It's metal on metal. If the metal "slots" on the frame are worn down, then the "grooves" on the barrel will not stay in sung, and vice-versa. IF this is the problem, a quick fix would be to drip some solder in the slots on the frame. This way there will be more friction to hold the barrel in place. A more preminant fix would be to put a quick bead in each of the slots with a mig welder and then file those spots down just enough so that they hold the barrel in snugly. Hope this helps. - Toe

  The solder will work fine, it's good that it's a bit soft too. When you push the barrel grooves into the slots with the solder in them it will form a bit for a snug fit. Maybe you're thinking he's trying to permanently put the barrel in place. It just has to be snug enough to hold. Then it will still be able to come out for disassembly. Let me know how it comes out!
