Remington 870 Wingmaster vs Express
OK guys and gals, help an old guy out. What is the difference between the 870 Wingmaster and Express? I ran a search and didn't find a previous topic on this subject. Is the Express' cheaper price due to quality, finish, etc.? Are the barrels interchangeable? I know that the receiver dictates the max shell length, but can a barrel off an Express be safely used on a Wingmaster?

Wingmaster, walnut for wood; Express, birch. Wingmaster, finish is bright blue; Express, finish is matte. Barrels are interchangeable. Price is the other big difference. 0 -
There were some milled parts vs stamped parts involved.
Add what RJ Snow wrote total them all up, and it's easy to arrive at a higher manufacturing cost.

Between my sons and I, we own 2 870 Wingmasters and 3 870 Express shotguns. As noted, the Wingmasters have nicer wood and very nice blued finishes. The Express' are rougher looking, both wood and finish wise.
Both types have functioned well for us.
Guns only have two enemies: Rust and Liberals....0 -
I have both and noticed that the Wingmaster functions more smoothly when I rack the pump handle. The powder coating on the Express just is more rough than the blued Wingmaster.

Remington Factory Rep. told me:"Internal Parts, such as springs and things are of a higher quality, Internal Parts have a higher polish and smoother finish. [;)]

all is correct. wingmaster costs more because more man-hours go into it. the express is called express.....well, its hury'ed up threw mfg'ing! for some, the express is a better choice because its gonna get beat up and they dont care. 0 -
Not sure the barrels are interchangeable. I have a full size 20 gauge wingmaster and express barrels will not fit it. 0 -
The Express has a ring at the end of the mag that needs to be modified to put an extension tube on. The WingMaster does not.
The newer Express may not have that ring inside the tube. Remember...Terrorist are attacking Civilians; Not the Government. Protect Yourself!0 -
I agree with the above posters. I have one of each. It seems the Express guns seem to wear in smoother after use, but even then they still aren't as smooth as a Wingmaster is right out of the box. They function OK but they aren't as nice to look at. A hunting partner bought a more recent .410 than my 12 ga. Gun worked OK but we couldn't figure why he couldn't hit paper with it. Turns out it shot to the left about 3 feet at 20 yards. Remember these are made to be competitive with the Mossberg. 0 -
Hello, I have 15 870s and they are all awsome tools to be used for just about anything someone can use a gun for. Not all parts are interchangeable. Most are though, within the same gauge.
