Ruger Mk II vs Target
Generally speaking, I can buy run of the mill Mk II's for $200 or less, but the target models go for almost $400. The slab sided bbl and the funky wood grips notwithstanding, does the target model shoot any better?

I have to agree with dano.Although I don't
have 6 of'em,I have had 4 ,starting with the
standard model which shot very well,the next
was a 10" bull bbl.(blued).It shot better than
the standard model (better balance,for me anyway).
Then I traded it for a 10" stainless.Really no difference
except it was PURDY.It was stolen and I replaced it
with the Slabside.I really like it.Especially the grips.

I have a 5.5 inch bull barrel MKII. It is very accurate....butttt, recently I had the chance to shoot a "Slabside" model and found it to be more accurate overall than mine.
My friend and I tested them side by side off of sandbag rests and both of us shot better groups with the slabsides with several different loads.
Guns only have two enemies: Rust and Liberals....0 -

I loved my 10"ers,and they shot better than I can.

I have a Gov't 6-7/8" Bull w/a Tasco Pro point on a weaver rail. At 25 yds. rapid bench fire, holds around 1/2 moa. Federal lr ammo. As far as looks, this is bad to da bone..

The slabside barrel is better than the bull barrel but the issue is whether you want something to plink with or use for competition. If money is a concern, just get a slabside secondhand. Mine was practically the same cost as a new one but came with an UltraDot sight. One of the very best investments I have ever made.

Six, My collection is at fourteen and growing. Don't have any Slabsides or Goverment models yet.Got most of the others though.Mark 1s and Mark IIs. Everytime I find a good price on one,I buy it.I find I shoot the target models better because of the added weight and longer barrel.My 22/45 is My least favorite of them and I like it very much.(Ugly) not in My world. Wish I had bought more Ruger 22s than that closet full of Turk Mausers. Henry Ford gave the world the Model T,Norma Jean gave us ( ) and Bill Ruger gave us this wonderful little 22 automatic.---My heros have always been sandwiches---
