30-30 ammo
Hello,
Is it safe to use Winchester Supreme 150 gr ammo in a (post 64) Winchester Model 94?
I notice the energy at the muzzle is higher than with any other cartridge so I assume the pressures are greater.
The ammo will be used on moose at ranges under 50 yards.
Thanks for any comments.

Saxon has it nailed. There is really not much reason to use the 150 grain ammo, the 130 grain will do anything the 150 will. Accuracy is often better with the 130 as well.

dennis53----I assume you are refering to the new Winchester ammunition catalog. I would assume that the increase in velocity and muzzle energy listed for this particular loading could be due to the use of the Moly coating on their bullet. These increases might have been obtained by using the same powder charges as their conventional loadings. This is only a guess and you could query Winchester directly. As far as using this loading on a moose, you should do all right as long as you place the bullet where it belongs and keep the distance as mentioned. 0 -
The 30-30 has pro.killed more moose here than the rest combined.....It'll do the job,as long as you do yours. They shoot em a hand below the hump here...course I would'nt know, there hasn't been an open season here since I could hunt and I can't seem to get drawn in the lottery...... 0 -
Duh....sorry,in answer to your post...no problem the 94 can handle it.... 0 -

I've used my dads 30-30 three different times for moose here in AK, and many times for caribou to around 100 yards- all with Remington 170 grain bullets. The 150 grain Winchester ammo should work just fine, make sure you practice enough. Just my opinion. 0 -
The 94 is tough enough for any Modern Cartridge - Have you tried the PMC StarFire Round, It is traditionaly a Pistol Profile. I have many customers that prefer them?

Thanks to all who replied. What an interesting forum. The ballistic charts in the winchester cat. say the 150 gr Supreme has 2049 ft-lbs at the muzzle; the Super-X 150's have 1902 ft-lbs; and the Super-X 170's have 1827 ft-lbs. My daughter will have the 30-30; I plan on bringing the Rem Model 81 in 300 sav.
Thanks again for all the replies.
