blueing browning superposed
i need an answer to this question. i am getting ready to get the bbls. on a o/u superposed made appx. in 1957 reblued and i am worndering if the are soft soder or not?can they be blued in hot blue process or is it like my marlin #90 which warns against a hot bath blueing.

Dreamer--It's just about certain that they are soft soldered. You don't want to put those barrels in a hot blue tank. No telling how many separate parts might come out. I have read where it's possible to use a hot tank for blueing soft-soldered barrels IF the solution has the proper amount of a cyanide compound (I think potassium cyanide)in it but haven't tried it, don't want to and not willing to. Recommend that you check with the factory to be certain. The processes to use on such barrels are the slow rust method; the hot water method does OK also. There are some fellers out there who advertise in the GunList and claim to be ex-Browning employees who do refinishing, maybe you ought to check with those guys too.

He'd be the one to blue your gun, but I'm sure he'd answer your question as well.
I have a Superposed at Art's right now.
I'd NEVER consider anything but the best for a "Superposed", unless it's just a beat up shooter.

If the blue is only worn off with the metal still in excellent condition I would blue it myself with Blue Wonder. Does a great job on shotgun barrels and is said to be as durable as any blue finish. You can go to website novumsolutions.com and get the details. They have a movie demo that some computers can show. Hope this helps. 0
