what scope for my 17v

looking for a scope for my marlin 17v.mostly going too be used for target shooting.under $250 and prob at least 20x,i have heard good things about the bushnell scopechief and the simmons 44 mag,what do you think thanks don

  You didn't mention if you have the stainless or blue version of this rifle. I also have a Marlin 17 stainless with the heavy barrel. Am very pleased with this rifle but had to do some work on the trigger. The first scope I used was a 6-18 power with an adjustable objective. I mostly shoot crows and small game targets and found that scope to be too powerful. I ordered a Simmons Aetec Mod: 2102 which is 2.8 - 10 x 44WA and have found it to be an excellent scope for my application. It is a fixed objective and silver matte finish that handsomely blends to the rifle finish. If I recall correctly I ordered it from Midway and it was around $170.00.

  Clays makes a good point. It may seem you want all that power in your scope but you will probably be bettet of with a higher-quality scope of reduced power - somewhere in the 10 or 12 power range.
  
  Or get the same quality scope in the lower power range and use the saved money and several months' more saved money and buy a HIGH quality compact spotting scope to go along with your scope.
  
  Remember... do not make a practice (most experts say NEVER) of using your rifle scope to identify unknown objects. I would say using a scope to identify the exact species or worthiness of KNOWN game/varmits is OK.

  I've got the 6-20x40 scopechief and it is a good buy. Since Bushnell discontinued them prices have dropped on the internet. They have fully multi coated optics, target turrits and sunshade.

  ddhotbot, Just got a flyer from Midway and they have the Burris FullFeild II with ballistic plex for $199.00. The good part is that you also get a Burris compact 20x50 spotting scope too! The FullField is only a 3x9 but the dots correspond to the 17HMR trajectory at 100,150,200,250 and 300! No I am not condoning 300 yard shots with the 17 just that the dots might be a usable reticle and the price isn't bad! GHD

  It seems to me someone mentioned a BSA named a Sweet 17 that's supposedly tuned for this particular cartridge. I haven't heard any thing other than not bad for the price. Midway has three versions from a fixed power at $36.59 , a 2-7 for $60 and a 3-12 for 90.
