Colt 32 Rimless Smokeless

I found an old Colt at a Pawn shop today that said "Colt 32 Rimless Smokeless". "Browning Patent" on the slide.
Serial Number 22351
The Pawn Broker said he wanted $399 for it.
I told him he was nuts and that it was only worth $250.
I have absolutly no idea how much it is worth.
Can someone here give me an estimate? It's in Good shape?
I may go back and buy it if I convinced him it wasn't worth $399.

  I got one of those....I too don't know quite what they are worth. I never really bothered to check. But I paid $175.00 for mine. The old man that owned it had taken it apart COMPLETELY. Every pin, screw, spring, part ect... to clean it and couldn't get it back togeather, so I bought it as a project gun, something to dabble with. I took off all the rust, it had almost no blueing so I reblued it and put it back togeather and it works great.
  
  So I guess in short I too wonder what they are worth.

  The 32's are really common, but are hard to find in really good shape (beat up examples are a dime a dozen). You should be able to get one in 90-95% for $300-350, and the mint/new ones are usually upward of $500. Beat up ones can be had all day at $200-250. I don't know what the "blue book" values on these are, but I've been watching the auctions on GB (and other websites) for quite awhile and these are roughly what they have been selling for. Keep in mind that original grips can bring $50 just for the grips, and original mags go for anywhere from $40-65 on ebay all the time, so if you get a beater with good grips and an original mag, you COULD buy aftermarket stuff for @$35 and lower what you have in the gun by $65. These are really sweet shooting little pistols, and they were made early enough to show the workmanship of Colt in it's prime. I saw a 1903 made in the early 30's and the fit/finish of it was better than ANYTHING colt has put out since. Oh, and these were later offered in .380, also known as a model 1908. (I've heard you can convert the .32s to .380 by simply changing out the barrel and mag; numrich has repros of both). The .380's are much rarer and thus are usually lots more expensive. Great guns to have in either caliber.
