Please help me ID this scope.

Title pretty much says it all. I believe this to be some sort of british "snooper" scope but would like an exact model is possible. Also, if anyone knows where I could get one of these, please let me know. It does not need to be functional. Thanks!

  Nothing here but a guess...
  
  I'm very curious as to the number of pins on the electrical cable. My guess is one conductor and a ground. If so, it's used to illuminate a set of cross hairs (I have a set of German glasses with very much the same feature).
  
  Since there's no standard mount and no observable focus ring, I'd have to say that the unit is mounted in a receiver by the milled front portion of the unit. I'd expect this to be just one component in a entire aiming system with focus being accomplished at another location.
  
  Shielded cable would indicate protection from an explosive environment. If the unit is very light, then I'd say aircraft related. If heavy and clunky, then I'd guess armour.
  
  If forced into a corner for a guess... Part of a tank periscope or sighting system used for low light missions. The only way before advanced electronics to aim a field weapon at night.

  Unfortunately, this piece belongs to a friend of mine, so I can't answer your questions immediately. I will ask him about the cable connector and the approx weight. Perhaps that will help us to nail down exactly what this is. Everything you have said so far makes great sense to me!
  
  One thing I would question though; this piece came in a box by itself and it appears that is all that the box was meant to contain (you can see the box in my pics above). If this is just a piece of a larger sighting device, is it common practice to store pieces of a scope seperately like this piece appears to be stored?

  After a little research I definitely think you might be on to something in regards to this being just a piece of a larger sighting unit. Although I know this isn't the correct model, this US infrared scope has a section near the rear that looks vaguely similar.
