Hi. What, if any are the differences in the cylinder locking bolt between the second and third generation colt SAA? Thanks.

  Hello,
  
  I just had a few questions about a Colt SAA first generation that I have had locked away for quite a few years. The gun was my father in laws, he passed away many years ago. I finally got around to looking into the gun and possible selling it. First I contacted Colt and obtained all the information via there archive service that I could. The serial # for the gun is 102863. The information that we obtained from Colt states the gun had a 7 1/2 inch barrel with a blue finish, .45 caliber. The gun in it's current state has a nickel finish and a 4/3/4 inch barrel. Obviously the gun has been reworked. How does this affect the value and is there anyway to identify who did the work and when? Any information would be appreciated. I attached a couple of pictures also. Thanks for all the help.

  Finish? Condition? Barrel length? S/N ? Any other markings? Bore ? cylinder bore pitting?
  It's like asking what's a 1927 model T Ford worth.

  The fellas are right; we need a lot more information.
  
  However, I suspect that you don't know enough about SAA's to be able to determine if the finish is original or a refinish, or if all parts are original. (By the way, the grips you described are hard rubber, not plastic.) So, it's unlikely that anyone on this forum can tell you a fair price to pay based on the information you give us.
  
  I understand that you really want this gun, and I probably would too. My thinking is that any decent condition old SAA would be worth $500 to me, even if it's been repaired and/or refinished, so I'd probably pay that much even if I wasn't sure what I was looking at. It may be worth more - a lot more - but I have no way of knowing that at this time. It would be a mistake to pay $1,000 or $2,000 for a gun that could possibly be worth a lot less, so I'd have to walk away if I couldn't get it for my price. A lot of these older guns have had extensive repairs done to them.
  
  I'm a little curious as to the situation with this gun. You say you "found" it, but want to know how much to pay for it. The seller usually decides an asking price, leaving the buyer the opportunity to accept it or offer less. How much does the SELLER think it is worth?
