Hesse H91
I saw a Hesse H91 on consignment today. What is it? Is it a H&K look-a-like? What is the value? Owner wanted $900.00 for it. Is this a true H&K?

That is not a true Heckler & Koch nor is it a licensed copy from HK. My opinion on all Hesse products, be they HK, AK, AR or anything else Hesse made, is that the company put production way ahead of quality. There are LOTS of problems with Hesse firearms and their AK's in particular had a very bad reputation. Hesse is out of business (born again as Vulcan Arms) and they will not honor any claims or repairs on their old products. I would advise you to steer well clear of this brand.

Ditto what Mark said. The Hesse products are generally crap and their customer service and quality control was notoriously bad. You would be better off with a Century Arms copy which is still crap, but it's better crap and a lot cheaper. Or Special Weapons LLC makes a top notch HK-91 clone in the $1000-1500 range. You might also check out DSA as well. Nothing Hesse made is worth $900 IMHO.[;)]

Hello Everyone!
My stepfather bought me a Hesse H91 a few years back when I was 16. Now 22, I was thinking about doing stuff to it - hopping it up a little, etc. This entire time we thought it was a Century Arms Cetme, come to find out it's a Hesse H91. I've heard bad things about Hesse, but since I already have the gun, I don't really want to buy another one. It cycles well, never jams (unless I get a faulty round. Stuck a little when it got really dirty one time) but It's a blast to shoot. Accuracy is an issue only because the sights as I can tell only adjust for elevation on the front, but I'm off for windage too. Now, I could just saw off the rear sights and tack weld on some HK Sights, and the front sights are removable - get some good ones...Which I plan to do - but here's the question:
I've heard Hesse Receivers are pretty terrible. If I were to look for another receiver, how do I get the barrel into the new receiver?0 -
Hesse == Vulcan == Blackthorne. Do some reading via google on all 3, then wonder why a company changes its name 3 times but keeps selling the same stuff. And then run. 0 -

Yeah, I've read the negative feedback. That's why I'm wanting to at least swap receivers, which I know is going to be exponentially easier said than done. Is it even the recievers that are garbage or is that more of an internals issue? Both?
Was just trying to figure out the process. I can't afford 1200 for an Ok HK91. I don't want to fork out 400 for a CA and be in almost the same position, either.
I know I'll need to weld on a complete cocking tube, but what to do about the barrel?0 -
Like has been stated, you can't trust anything that says Hesse, Blackthorne, or Vulcan on it. The same people just kept changing the name to try to outrun their lack of quality. It is pretty hard to screw up building an AK-47, but they seem to have managed it on a regular basis. Just think of what they could do with more complex designs like the 91 or 93. they are a stay away from, for sure. 0 -
I had a Blackthorne AR, just sold it a week ago, it shot LESS than half inch groups with Black Hills ammo and NEVER EVER EVER malfunctioned... Finish and fit were excellent and it KICKED BUTT on my buddy's Colt in the same configuration at range day. Guess you never know huh? 0 -
uh, is anyone going to actually answer the question? I'm not buying another rifle since I basically got this one free. I know they're bad - why I want to fix it. Is it just the reciever? Internals? What's the deal? 0
