Why did Steyrs get so cheap all of a sudden ???

Well, there are a lot of Steyr M9s as well as M40s for around $ 300 NIB !!! I don't know anything about this gun's pros and cons, but should I get one in 9 mm ? Why is it cheaper than a lot of low quality guns, these are Austrian, right ? Is it possible to get pre ban high cap mags for these ? Any feedback will be appraciated.

  Supply and demand may explain the price. I paid well over $400 for my M40 when they came out. The gun was designed after the 1994 magazine ban, and the designer stupidly did not have the foresight to design it to accept an existing high capacity magazine, a real mistake in my book.
  
  However, Smith & Wesson Sigma magazines can easily be adapted to work by cutting a new latch hole in the appropriate place. Had the designer just made the magazine latch in the Sigma location, there would be a ready supply of high capacity magazines with no modification. Fortunately, the Sigma magazines will still work in the Sigma after modification.

  As I understand it, the parent company, Daimler decided to use the Steyer factory site to build BMW's, At last report Steyer no longer exists. Thus no factory support, thus product dumping.

  Thank you for the info.
  I didn't like the sights on that gun.
  However, since there won't be any Steyrs around, may be it's a good idea to invest mere $ 300 on this gun. Keep it in the box, don't fire it and may be you'll get a few extra bucks in 20 years time when they are considered as classics.

  Steyr has moved to a new factory, and it looks like there is a new importer for its pistols, USA Steyr.

  Thanks for the info. I jumped on one with a great price on a S40 compact. It puts my mind at ease to know that there are parts and service available in the US. My manual has contact information for a company in IL. I will have to find it and post it.
