Colt DA Army
Can anyone tell me about the value (approximately) of a Colt DA Army S/N 18xx. good condition.well used but rifling and bore good. has COLT'S PT FA MFG.Co. HARTFORD CT USA DEPOT 14 PALL MALL LONDON stamped on the top of the barrel. It's a 45 cal (which is stamped on the left side in front of the trigger, with a B stamped under it. The cylinder has an S, a 8, a 2, and a 3 stamped on the end around the outside edge. takes a buttstock and has the lanyard ring. Also if you know how many were made, it would be appreciated. cheers, plads

My books calls it the Model 1878 "Frontier". Says that 51,000+ were made between 1878 & 1905. Many different calibers were chambered, including .450, .455 and .476 Eley.
Flayderman notes that the ones with the "London depot barrel address suffix and British proofmarks" bring a premium. He doesn't even address ones cut for a shoulder stock. I imagine if it can be established that the alterations for shoulder stock were done by Colt, the value of the revolver would be increased substantially.
Just a thought, in light of your low serial number, shoulder stock modification and lanyard ring, your revolver might be part of a little known contract placed through the London Depot?0 -

I got a old "Flayderman's" #4, 15% is what he call's it. If you get that Colt letter and it verifies that your 1878 "Frontier", was cut for stock at factory, with lanyard and special S.N. (Aussi Contract?), you got a big buck item on your hands! 0 -
