9MM Semi-Auto
Please excuse my lack of knowledge on any form of gun. I am wanting to purchase a 9mm hand gun for my husband and I honestly don't know anything about the different models. He already has a Ruger 357 and a 45 (don't know who makes it). Since this is a surprise I don't want to ask him. I have seen a Cobra and HI POINT 9mm, but because it is so inexpensive I am afraid it is not a good gun? Can anyone advise.

My two son-in-laws have no handguns for home protection and i'm going to buy each of them one for xmas. For about $500 what would you recommend for a 9mm. I could be persuded to buy a 45cal if there are good arguments for those as well - but also for around $500 a piece. Thank you! 0 -
Welcome to the FORUMS Young Lady...You might consider the Beretta M-92 Type F.. or even better take a Look at J&G Sales in Prescott, Arizona's WEB Site...They have Sales going on all the time and at decent prices and You might find a better deal online and with a Warrenty in the bargain..........

my brother recently purchased a springfield armory xd only in a .40 cal they do however make a 9mm i have shot many guns in the past couple years and own several 9mms i think the xd stands out for it's features,reliability,and price it also looks good and feels good.it has nice weight and balance,and because of it's small size it is easy to conceal and carry if your state allows.it is one of the most accurate hand guns i have ever shot and most of my friends agree.your (HUSBAND) would be happy to get this gun.good luck 0 -

I have a Ruger P-89 DC 9mm which i think is a great auto-loader... it's fun to shoot, nicely priced and a well built pistol. It is one of the last legal high capacity magazine pistols...meaning you can get high capacity magazines for those days on the plinking range and have lots of fun... as was stated in previous replies to your post the Springfield Armory XD is a great pistol... depending on what you wanna shell out for a pistol for hubby... if he's serious into his pistols.. go with the XD if he just wants something to enjoy then i would recommend the Ruger...

ALL of the Rugers from P-85 - P95 are tough and dependable. I personally do not care for the wide slide as I am more accustomed to the 1911 U.S. Army Style. Money - Value- Quality = Ruger.
A Very impressive 9mm: The Springfield "Extreme Duty", Priced well under Semi-Autos of the same Quality and Capability. [;)]

The Star BM 9mm, while out of production, can still be had, with a spare mag, taxes, etc, out the door for $250, and it offers a really decent trigger pull, sights, and safety. The spare mag's $25, so the gun is costing you only $210 plus tax.It's best carried with the hammer cocked and the safety on, tho, which requires more training and attention to detail than many wish to devote to such things. Either that, or carry it with a loaded mag and an empty chamber, and just cycle the slide when you intend to shoot, putting a round of ammo into the chamber (rear end) of the barrel. 0 -

Just a suggestion: buying a pistol is a very subjective enterprise. There are some great ones that just don't feel right in my hand and some where the safety, magazine release, decocker, or slide release are very awkward to operate. A nice possibility would be to take him to the gun shop and let him choose after handling several examples.

There's no such thing as a "great pistol' whose controls are hard to reach-manipulate. If the latter is the case, the design SUCKS,pure and simple. A decent pistol can be used INSTANTLY. If you have to screw around with it, the design is a poor one.
Any hand can be trained to any grip. This has long since been proven, thousands of times. While you may "like" the feel , for instance of a Colt Woodsman, that doesn't make the .22 a manstopper. Nor does it make a 1911 a front pants pocket gun.
YOu HAVE to get the aspects of the tool that are needed for the JOB, then you LEARN to like it. You can LIKE a hammer all you want, that doesn't mean that you can measure the diameter of a bullet with it. Nor can you drive nails with the micrometer. If what you need is to be able to discretely put your hand in your pocket (when you sense trouble might be in the offing) then an n frame .44 revolver is not what you want, REGARDLESS of how much you might "like" the way the latter feels, how much power it has, etc.0 -
Consider the Kel-tec 9mm. Very affordable, very light, very small, very good & very good reputation. 0
