Winchester Model 72 Receiver Markings?

Purchased a Winchester Model 72, 22 Cal. bolt action Target Rifle. The rifle has No. 80 receiver peep sight and hooded ramp front bead sight.

I noticed that the receiver chamber opening, is marked with a "FIVE POINTED STAR" and the number "17". Can anyone tell me what is the significance of the Star and number 17 markings. Thanks in advance. Anthony
