Thomas Parker, 12 gau. SXS

I recently purchased a double barrel, Damascus, side hammers marked Thomas Parker on each side of the receiver. Cannot find a serial number. Gun appears very old, but in 80 to 90% condition. I have not been able to find any information of the gun. Is it a Parker Bros. replica? Any estimate on value? Top between barrels marked Laminated Steel. Any info would be appreciated.   You're a lot closer than you might imagine. I wouldn't call it a replica... Rather, it's a knockoff.
  
  No serial was required at the time of manufacture, but you'll find a ELG proof on the underside of the barrels. This gun is what is politely refered to as a utility gun. It was made in Belgium in the years from about 1890 to as late as WW1 and sold new for less than $10.00.
  
  The name was meant to confuse. It did an admirable job then just as it's doing today. Value is nothing as a scattergun, but sometimes as high as $200.00 as a home decoration.
  
  Only if in excellent condition should you remotely consider firing the piece... And then only with BLACK POWDER.

  Many thanks for the info. The barrels do have proof marks under them, plus right has #13, left #13B "not for ball" below it 14M and HO. Bores are shiny, no pits, lockup tight. Would it be safe for low base shells? Thanks, Al

  Damascus = Black powder only.
  
  This wasn't a high quality gun to begin with. Even though it looks good, please have a good smith check it out. If he gives his blessing, then inquire here about the proper loads.
  
  LOW BASE SMOKELESS DOESN'T MEAN LOW PRESSURE. Don't risk yourself or your gun.

  One more note...
  
  There was also an English Parker. Look for crossed swords on the proofs. If so, still a rather low quality piece made for the trade. Same cautions apply.

  You say there are Proof Marks under the Barrels...But did'nt say what those proof Marks were...? I agree with Nords assessment with the discription given...But to be sure we're correct I want to know if the marks are the Oval with ELG in the center or another Proof........
