Scoop on Indian .308 ammo

What is the word on the Indian .308 ball ammo that is currently on the market? What has been your experience with it?

  Just bought a case at gun show, will write it up when I shoot some. I opened up the sealed case, and the first 3 "sleeves" of ammo had 2 each rounds with split necks. Not looking good so far. Gotta go shoot.

  Do a search on AR15.com or FALfiles.com. General consensus seems to be that it shoots ok, but around 5-10% of it will be bent or smashed to the point where it won't chamber. I've shot the portugese stuff, but it's gotten hard to find. AIM surplus has the South African for $149/ 1000 and from what I've read it's good stuff. Just ordered some to try. There's also suposed to be a shipment of Austrailian coming in somethime this summer that is supposed to be cleaner and more accurate than any of the above, but who knows when it will hit the market. If you go Indian, expect a bunch of junk loads with the good ones, and when you look at that, you might as well go with the South African (It's in the handy battle packs too, while the Indian stuff is in ziplocks).

  The Australian 7.62 NATO is here and available from many vendors including CMP, Dan's, SOG. Not only do you get bandos and "chargers", it comes 200 rounds packed in the old style (wider, 30.06 width) .30 cal ammocan.
