What's the difference for use in silhouette shooting ?????

No differance I can see. I have a Model 70 in 6.5x55, and have re-searched the .260 reloading info, I see no differance in the results. I think the .260 brass may be easier to find in the future, for a long time Norma was the only one makeing 6.5x55, and we know how cheap they are. I think which ever RIFLE you like best, and get the best price on should determine which one to get. Good shooting!!

If you reload, get PMC Brass for the 6.5x55, or Buy the PMC shells and reload the hulls after firing. PMC is GOOD BRASS.
The two are very close, the 6.5x55 came from the Mauser Family, the 8mm and the 7mm are the same hull. But the Problem with the 6.5x55 is not the accuracy; But the twist rate. Ammunition is easily acquired through a Viable and Helpful Gun Dealer, (not Wal-Mart). 140 grain FMJ at about $11.00 a box - 140 JHP at about $13.50 a box. And it is good ammunition. Either caliber is Excellent as for Accuracy and Lack of Recoil. [;)]

Sellier&Bellot is also producing ammo in 6.5 Swedish as well.

Use to own one of them Ljungmann rifles long ago. The Swede ammo wouldn't fit on regular 8mm mauser stripper clips. Seems that the head diameter of the 6.5 x 55 military ammo is something like .008 bigger then the 8mm Mauser/30-06/7.62 x 51 families of cartridges.0 -
Well rufe-snow beat me to this. The 6.5 Swedish Mauser was not derived from the venerable 7mm Mauser family of cartridges.

When Brass was difficult to come by: I necked the 7mm to 6.5x55, probably had a screwed up rifle? I stand Corrected. But anyway, the PMC Ammo is excellent brass, we have ordered brass for various Cal. 25-06 - .308 - .300 Win Mag - etc. No complaints over extended use, and I personally prefer it over some of the Major Mfg. [;)]

Same bullet, different cartridges obviously. The .260 is slightly hotter than the factory loaded 6.5x55, but the Swede version can be hotted up a bit if you are hand loading. Since the .260 is a .308 necked down to .254, brass will probably always be available. If you are making a conversion as I am from .243 (or other .308 family cartridges, the .260 is the obvious and easy way to go. Really not a nickles worth of difference in accuracy or energy between the two, but twist rate of the barrel is important in stablizing those long bullets.
