Need info about a 1909 Savage 32-40 model 1899

My husband Curt are trying to get an accurate value of his gun- I've just recently sent away for the historian's report, but we are not very patient people! I'd like to know what the best way to sell, auction, advertisement, or word of mouth? You can view pics at http://photos.yahoo.com/princessmakoli
Everything on the gun is original- special ordered from the factory, no rebluing or refinishing- all numbers match, including on the butt and the wood. Anybody have an idea of the value?

  Congratulations, You're husband has a beautiful model 99.
  Are you certain of the caliber? .32-40's are very rare in this perticular rifle, usually a custom order configuration. With the stock and cresent butt, engraving, and other features I could make out in the photos, If this is ideed a factory configuration, His is a rare example. From what I gather, it appears in excellent condition.
  So, IF these are factory features and in .32-40, it would fetch between $1200 to $1800 depending on actual condition score. If it is a custom work it will be considerably less valueable, UNLESS, the work was done by one of the renouned rifle smiths/ engravers or it is a presentation gun built expressly as a gift to someone. A General, Stateman,Celebrity,etc. Patience, The historical letter will revial much. Hope this helps.
