Taking off a scope?
Can I take my scope off without changeing the zero if I have dovetail scope rings?

D@D: from my experience unless you have loctited one of the rear adjustment screws and put the scope back on in the same manner as it was taken off and put the other set screw back in same position, you might get it back to zero.
But dont bet on it!!!!
Your best bet would to have some quick release type mounts and rings from Leupold or the like, that gaurantee 100% zero. None of the dove tail mounts state that as far as I know.

As most have posted,...."No", is pretty much in the Bulls Eye.
Dual Dovetails are a stong setup, but very, very finicky for tube alignment, and ring Front to Rear wall to wall circumference runout.
Must be done right the first time or scope damage can easily occur.
Two ways that might help, and will get you very close:
1. Base Screws Are Acessible-
Mark the rings so you know which is F&R.
Mark each so you know which is left side & right side. That way they go on exactly as they came off.
I put light punch marks on the left side, flat sides of the ring caps, AND ring bottoms by the screw holes. One punch mark for the front, two for the rear. Always working from the left side.
Now, remove the base screws only, WITHOUT moving the ring bottoms.
Everything is now 'referenced' for reinstallation.
2.Base Screws Not Acessible-
Clean oil off base.
Using same ring 'referencing', mark the ring to the base(most bases are different so no need to mark), using a pencil drawing around the base where the ring meets if possible, or drawing lines against the flat surfaces F&R.
Again you have reference points.
