kimber 1911 .22
i recently purchased one of kimber's new 22's and much to my amazement the slide does not lock back when the last round is fired. it is not a manfunction apparently this is kimber's bright idea of saftey. is there a solution? the problem is with the magazines because a chip mccormick 45 mag will lock the slide back. does someone make a mag that works or will i have to live with the problem

Kimber's first conversion kit was made by Ceiner and it also does not hold the slide back. Probably because the spring tension in the .22 mag. is just not strong enough to do the job. Looks like you will just have to live with it. [:(]

The Kimber .22 is REALLY overpriced, for no more gun than it IS. Sheesh. Hard to believe that there's anyone out there who can't see that. 0 -
I don't know if this is true but I herd the reason is that the aluminium slide is so soft that the stop notch can not take the wear and tear of a normal 1911 operation , so this feature was eliminated. 0 -
The steel slide of the Colt .45- .22 unit was known for wearing out really soon, too, as were the notches on the mag follower that engaged the slide stop. Soft steel in the slide, I guess. BE shooters only load 5 rds at a time, anyway. 0 -
The Marvel Precision 1911 .22 conversion which is similar to the Kimber does not lock back the slide after the last round either. The Mervel users manual makes the following statement:"The first major consideration in the design of this unit is reliability. For this reason the slide is made from 7075 aluminum because of its durability and lightness of weight. This allows the use of of a 9 pound recoil spring, which cleanly strips rounds off the magazine. We have designed and installed a hardened steel breach/firing firing pin insert into the slide that gives the Unit durability in the areas of the breech face, breech recess and other critical areas. Because the slide is aluminum, we had to sacrifice the "last round" lock back feature. We feel this is a relatively small price to pay, given the Units other assets." Most coversion systems lack the lock back feature..................Hondo 0 -
thanks guys i figured i would just have to get used to dropping the hammer on an empty chamber before reloading kind of sucks to do that when your on the clock but thats life. thanks again 0
