This is a terrific weapon, however, there are two things about this pistol you should know. The mags are at minimum about $40 because they are only made by Steyr and imported, plus you can't get any kind of hi caps. The other issue is that there are no holsters made for it, since it is very wide, in fact wider than a glock, but generic holsters work for it. Anyways, hope that has been some help. I love mine to death, and had a holster specially made for it, if you are interested in getting a holster made for it, I can give you an e-mail address for the lady who made mine.

I really like the low bore axis, but the grip angle is the Glock angle, which I do not like. The safety is a nice feature not found on a Glock. Some do not like the unusual sights.

As far as no high capacity magazines, not so fast there 10-round breath! Just get a pre-ban Smith & Wesson Sigma .40 magazine, cut a new latch hole in the appropriate place, and viola, you have a 15-round Steyr S40! If you do not believe me, just tape a Sigma magazine in and try it. It will work perfectly (assuming the S40 takes the same magazine pattern as the M40, which is what I have for use with Sigma magazines. I am almost certain the M40 and S40 have the same magazine pattern, but have not verified it.).

I had a Stery in 9mm, so I'll put in my 2cents and hopefully it will be of some help.

Reliable gun, but when something went wrong, it went wrong with a vengeance. I had a case fail to eject and it jammed the slide up so good I practically had to hitch it to a tow truck to get it unjammed. This isn't the norm by any stretch of the imagination, but it did happen to me. More likely than not I was just the recipient of some very bad luck.

On the plus side, it's a very comfortable gun, the sights are very intuitive, and it's Austrian engineering without the Glock-ugly looks.

Sorry I dont have first hand experience on the Steyer. But I am a subscriber to gun test magazine. They did a review on the 9mm .40 S&W and the .357 Sig.They proved to be reliable all except for the .357 Sig,but no one liked the sites. And the sig model had alot of jams.Over all it was rated a conditional Buy.HTH

they are great little pistols. I do not like Glocks, and these are very similar, but I really like the Steyr. I was able to shoot a full mag into a 3' shoot-and-see circle at 25 yds, 2 handed, standing no special effort to work each shot. Very impressive for a trigger-cocker. Comfortable in recoil, and I personally find the sights to be just fine. Can't see how they bother anyone.

Thanks for the input. They are a fine looking weapon, very comfortable and i think have a great sighting system, very easy to aquire. It is too bad about the magazines, I was wondering how easy they were to get...you can never have enough you know. I am going to put some money down tomorrow.[8D] Thanks again!
