recommendation on .22 takedown for kids
Are there any inexpensive .22 takedown rifles? Maybe $250.00 range?

Rossi makes a slick little pump takedown. Model 62SAC. I have one 98% in the box $125 shipped to your FFL.

I've picked up several Remington mod.241(Speedmaster)'s
over the years for less than $250.Not that easy to find
but great shooters, and may be worth something someday.[;)]

My favorite is the Browning .22 auto, but that's probably over your budget. Norinco made a decent copy that should meet your needs, if you can find one.

A friend of mine used to work at KMART in sporting goods. He told me to avoid the Marlin Papoose as they ended up having to return just about every one that they sold. They were fine until you took 'em apart a few times. Of course one must tmper this with the thought that a number of buyers were probably not familiar with firearms, but he said they were a big headache. This has been 6 or 8 years ago, so maybe they corrected the problem. 0 -
Get'em an AR-7. They'll love it.
Here's what they look like, and no this isn't my auction I'm just posting it here so you can see what one looks like:
