Mossberg Collectors?? Billy Club/Night Stick 410
Mossberg Experts and/or Collectors.
I've been meaning to ask, for some time.
Last spring at a Gun Show, I saw a "Weapon" I had never seen or
heard of before.
The owner said that it's referred to as either a Billy Club 410 and Night Stick 410.
The gentleman said it was all properly "Registered" or it would be illegal to possess.
What it is:
It does look like and is about the same size as a Billy Club.
But, from there it gets real interesting.
The barrel portion uncrews and it is chambered for 410 shotgun shell.
When back in original configuration, there is a "triggering" device on the upper portion of the weapon.
If I remember right it said: Mossberg Pat/Applied for
Chicopee Falls, Mass.
Would this be "Registered" as an "Any Other Weapon" or "Class III"
Interesting and he wouldn't put a price on it!
Just Wondering what anybody knows about it!

Spring Creek, I am not really familiar with the Mossberg but during the 1920's and early 30's there were a number of police equipment suppliers who sold these types of billy clubs for riot control work. Most of these would fire only blanks or tear gas cartridges, but a few could chamber live shells. The market for these clubs was pretty small. These things they were not good at controling riots, they were actually more likely to cause a riot when a bystander saw a cop or security officer blast a protester with a load of shot at close (no doubt VERY close) range. After the National Firearms Act went into effect in 1934 the civilian market for these firearms totally dried up. That Mossberg is what is known as an ANY OTHER WEAPON and had to have been registered on or before the end of the amnesty period (December, 1968) provided by the Gun Control Act of 1968. The cost to register the club would have been $200, but it can be transfered to another buyer for only a $5 tax. I have no idea what the market value of something like this would be as there are a limited number of collectors interested in these types of firearms.
