870 Cantilever BBL Q

I bought a used 20" Rem-choke bbl with the factory cantilever mount. The base does not suit weaver rings !! It appears that .22 tip-off rings might work but I compared the width with a stock 10/22 tip-off base and the cantilever base is a little narrower.

What gives????????

The cantilever base has 4 tapped holes straddling two cross cuts. Am I missing another piece that would screw onto the cantilever base and then accept Weaver rings ???

  the early cantilever barrels had a 2 piece cantilever mount, the barrel had a raised block on it that the weaver type rail fasten too by the use of 2 screws, the top part or rail was about 6 to 8 inches long if I remember right , long enough to come back over the receiver, it sounds like you are missing the long part ,ie the part that the scope would mount to, if this is the case and you can't find a replacement part , try taking the barrel to a good gunsmith and having him adapt a short weaver base to the block and them mount a reddot on it

  Mine has a rail. It is 13" long and screws to the front mount with 4 screws. The rail is just too narrow.

  well I can't say for sure , its been awhile since I had one but I believe they came with rings from the fractory, maybe they where there own special size and only fractory rings will fit !? sorry I'm not being more helpfull[:(]
  here's a thought for you IF you can't find away to mount the scope you want ,and IF you got the barrel for a good price it may be a good idea tosell your and buy the newer model, Your barrel may have some collectors value to it since it one of the first one Remington put out, if you can put it up for sell on E b a y barrel usally sell pretty good over there

  You have the Old style Remington cantlever Scope mount Barrel,
  IT USES A SPECIFIC RING designed for that barrel ONLY,The new remington Cantlever uses a weaver type ring and is much more ridgid.My advice would be to call remington and tell them you Lost the rings for your barrel and cant find them anywhere,Dont be suprised
  if they say they can't help you because it has been out of production for years now,Just post an ad in the want ads here on gunbroker
  They are floating around you just have to be lucky,OR you could cop out all together sell your barrel Here and then get the new version.
