I have in my hands a 16 gauge,single shot,
break action.On the left side of the receiver
is "KK" (about 3\8" tall),Butt plate says "Simmons",
Grip cap says "Simmons Hardware Co."
30" barrel.No other markings.
Interesting serial # on all parts:A0001
Barrel's got some pits inside and out but no rust.
Wood has the normal bumps and dings but is still nice
and glossy.I'd say maybe 80% Any ideas? Maker & Value?

It was made by either Crescent or folsom. Crescent made shotguns between 1888 and 1899 for an enormous number of companies, hardware stores, catalogs, feed stores etc. Folsom imported shotguns for the same outlets, and almost all had the name of the buyer company. Damascus barreled, they were made for black powder shell, and are not safe for modern smokeless powders, and not even for blackpowder shells, unless throughly check by a gunsmith competent and equiped to examine Damascus barrels. Huges numbers were made and typically they sell for $100 to $250 as wall hangers, but mostly it is tough to get $200 for them. In this case the serial number probably will not add much, if any. to the value. Oil it up nicely and enjoy a piece of history over the fireplace.
