Colt 45

HELP, I inherited what looks like a Colt 45 but the markings on it do not say COlt anywhere.
on the left side of the slide it says
"Fabrica Militarde Armas Portatiles-Rosarig"
"Sistema Colt Cal 11.25mm - Industria Argentina"

on the right side of the slide it says
"P.N.N. 110907"

can anyone please give me info on the history of this gun and the value

    Hi, Would appreciate expert opinion on a gun purchased (used) in 1975. Colt Mk IV 45 ACP. It has had gold and silver hand grips added. What would the experts believe this is worth? The only other ID I have on it is the serial number. Thanks, bj

    It's a gun built from parts. Essex built the frame, and in most cases, the parts added to the frame were either Colt or military surplus. These guns in assembled form will usually bring around $300, but if one has been customised, it may bring more depending on the quality of the work. For the most part, they are good guns and good shooters. No collectors value.

    An Essex parts gun bringing more than $300 with mil spec parts? I need to sell in Arkansas!

    PS The last one we sold listed for $325 and we took $275.

    Those are nice prices dheffley...I don't doubt your word, but guns must be pretty cheap where you are.

    Last gun show (in April) I went to here in Minn-eeee-sota, parts 1911's had asking prices in the $475 to $600 range.

    Bluesteel......despite your 1911 not having any collector value, there's no reason it won't make a fine shooter. Collector value has nothing to do with how well a gun shoots.....or how much fun it is to shoot it.

    I built my competition gun on an Essex frame with mix-and-match parts, and it's a tack driver.

    BlueSteel: The 1911 that you mention has no collectors value, but there is potential for a very good shooter there. The ESSEX frame is considered an UPGRADE from the original Military. The Slide being Colt is neither here nor there. Any 1911 can be tuned to excellence and it really doesn't take mucho denaro.

    With the Slide in Battery: Push down on the barrel, see if ther is any play, up, down, side to side. The upper locking lugs are very important to accuracy. Next: Check to see if the front bushing is snug within the slide and if the barrel is snug within the bushing. (only 1/2 inch of the end is important). Assuming the barrel has good rifling and no pitting?

    If the Barrel is good, but does wiggle a few thousands in the Bushing? = Take the bushing out, if it has any bluing inside (where the barrel rides), take fine emory and take the bluing off. Find a friend with a Brazing rig, and flash the inside of the bushing with brass. Polish the half inch of barrel and if you want; undersize the barrel from that point back to the swing link. (it an't got to be pretty, can be done by hand). Hone or polish the Brazed Bushing to fit the Barrel exactly. Steel runs very well on brass.

    Next: The Trigger and Spring >>>>>>>> no need to get another trigger. It's in the Spring and Sear, simple polishing and a slight bend to the back spring will net a crisp trigger at about 2 - 3 lbs.

    Sights: Take a samll drill and make indentions - Left and right side of sight view slot. paint in with flourescent orange and cover with a shot of clear Lacquer. The front sight is staked in, so we don't want to have to replace it. make a spot with the small drill bit, (you can always make it bigger after you get the initial indention). Probably Green Model Paint for the front sight.

    $300 is cheap enough for any 1911 - 1911-A1, Even teh Llamas are higher in New condition.

    Some of the slides on the 45's that had drawing numbers were match grade.
    The magazine with the gun is a military contract mag made by various companies.
    The Essex frames were well made, I have heard rumors that the govenment even ordered Essex frames for some of the match guns that were used.

    I read it in one of my 1911 books, I will try and look it up to give you the exact information.
