41 Mag Value
I have just acquired a Ruger 41 mag with a 4 5/8" barrel.It is a three screw in excellent shape. I knew the guy who owned it. He won it in a raffle when it was new.It was stolen years ago and used in a robbery. The local cops geinuses all, scratched the case number in the grip frame. It has not been modified. As far as I know, it has only had about 50 rounds through it. BTW, The serial number is below 600. Does anyone have an idea what this gun is worth? It isn't for sale, I'm just curious.

How do you figure that I am in posession of a stolen firearm? I acquired it from the estate of it's rightful owner. I said it was stolen years ago. If you will read the whole thing, you will see that the cops scratched the case number in the grip frame. Since when do they give the gun to anyone but it's rightful owner?"

About $250, $300 max if you can find a buyer. The cops scratching the case number into the grip frame really sucks, and has lessened the value. You have a great shooter. My advice is to not have it updated with the new safety.

After being recovered the insurance will generally offer it back to the origional owner. If the owner does not want it back the insurance co. becomes the owner and can resell it. I am interested if you are looking to sell. SP0045@earthlink.net 0 -

You can purchase replacement gripframes from a couple of suppliers online. I have heard they are not hard to install. Someone at the RugerForum should to able to help you find a source. Also check out
Lett grips, they make Ruger grips in a variety of woods at good prices. I have a pair of their figured walnut on my Super Blackhawk.
Very attractive.
Do you reload? If not think about starting. A LOT of reloading data on the internet. You can save a bunch of money if you roll your own.0 -

Did a lot of Ruger .41 shooting years ago. Even won a metallic silhouete match with a 6 1/2" old model with reloads. Always liked it better than the .44 mag. Harvested couple deer with one. Great caliber. Advice to reload is well taken. Damage to frame destroyed collector value, unless if grip frame is verifiable brass, you have a very valuable gun! Shoot it and enjoy it!

To make this as plain as possible, so everyone can understand it: This gun was stolen and used in a robbery. It was recovered by the local Keystone Kops. They are the idiots who scratched the grip frame. After the case was settled they returned it to it's ORIGINAL owner. He owned it until he died. I got it from his estate. (note Sunflower; or whatever your name is, read the whole post. I am still waiting for my apology).
And yes, I do reload. No, it is not for sale.

You'll be waiting a long time for an apology by the way, it is neither deserved or owed. If you dont have thick enough skin to be here, you better buy some pads.[;)]
Sounds to me like you already have your answer about the gun's value, and most likely, already knew the answer, before it was asked. You knew the value was destroyed as far as a collector is concerned, before even asking. So, its worth whatever it means to you, since you arent selling.

gskyhawk. I have seen ads for the .41 mag Super Blackhawk Hunter.
But none in my area yet.[:(]
My eyes are getting a bit weak (Maybe it's the fuzzy sights they put on guns these days [;)])
So the idea of a .41 I can pop a scope on sounds pretty good.0 -
