Bersa .380 Thunder as a CCW
Any thoughts on this gun and its use as a conceled carry gun? It is cheap (under $200.00), and I am suspicious.

I bought one through Gunbroker.com and I was very pleased with it. It may not be the best one out there, but for the money and the quality I could not pass it up. I am very happy with mine.

I have one , it was a used one. When i first got it , it would jam at least once evey mag, but I gave it and all 3 mags a very good cleaning and since them it has been 100% , Hollow points or ball doesn't matter it feads them all and it shoots pretty darn decens groups too 0 -
Bought one NIB last year because they were inexpensive and I had heard good things about them. Now, I carry it all the time. Great little pistols for the money. Like gskyhawk's, mine feeds anything I put in it. Never had a failure. I am not particularly fond of the hard plastic grips, but hey, for $200, I can live with them.
IMHO, go for it!
What is the finish on the one you are looking at? I paid a few more dollars for the duo-tone version. Just liked the two-tone look of it.
Taxation WITH representation isn't so hot either!0 -
I have had one for less than a week.I have 100rnds FMJ and 20 HP through it with no trouble on one range trip.I bought it because one of my range buddies let me shoot his and I was very pleased with it.
Mine is the tou tone Thunder 95 model,if I were to do it again I would get the all black round trigger guard Firstorm version.Same price but my dealer did not stock that version.I think it is alot of gun for the money.CW

.380 is better than nothing, but just barely.
If you're serious about a CCW, there are a lot of nice, compact, 9mms and .38 Specials out there.....and lately, some nice compact .40s and .45s.
If you're gonna carry, might as well carry something useful.0 -

what is your favorite brand for a .40 or d.45 then? I have trouble seeing that caliber on the short handles some of the most compact guns out there now days, although I haven't tried to shoot them yet. Magazine extensions are good, but even then they can be short for someone with big hands like me. The Bersa had the right price, although I have not heard much about the .380. I have seen one a friend showed me and impressed me, although I am easily impressed by any gun.0 -
I have heard nothing but good things about the Bersa Thunder .380.
As far as caliber, a .380 is plenty. I have a wide variety of pistols to choose from, and frankly, anything bigger or wider than a snubby .38 or a Walther PP is going to be really uncomfortable and awkward for daily wear.0 -
My two cents worth. I own a Sig 230, about the same size but costs twice as much. I have found it has some sharp edges where I wish they weren't. I am currently lusting over a Para Ordinance LDA Carry Companion or a Kahr 9mm micro. The Kahr is more money, but weighs less and is a bit smaller than my Sig. The Para CCW is bigger (.45)
but I really oohh and ahh over that really nice trigger. Lotsa bucks
(in the $600 to $800 range) but on the other hand you are going to carry this to save your life and limb.0 -
Landis....my own personal favorite is a Colt Series 70 LW Commander in .45ACP. I've carried it for about 25 years and have seen no reason to change....but that's just a personal choice.
Best thing to do is handle & shoot as many different handguns in the general size, caliber, and weight that you feel you can comfortably carry, as you can.
Go to a gunshow and handle as many as you can in the calibers you want. At least you can narrow down your choices that way.
The right gun for you is the one that you can handle and shoot best and are most comfortable with.
When you've narrowed your choices down to 2 or three, see if you can beg, borrow, or rent them and see which one you like shooting best.
Then look around for the best deal on your choice, buy it, and practice, practice, practice....then practice some more until handling it becomes second nature to you.

I bought a Bersa NIB and I really enjoy it. Contact Eagle Imports and they have Factory magazines as well as FACTORY ANAOTOMICAL RUBBER GRIPS and they are under $30. I don't have there address or phone number handy but they have a web site. They are the same ones that come on the Firestorm .380.
