Colt New Service Question

What years were the Colt New Service revolvers produced? Also could anyone recommend a good reference book covering the New Service models.

  I got this out of the : "Blue book of gun values". It says they were made between 1898-1942. It will give some bearing to the model you have or are looking for but nothing in depth. Hope this helps.

  The New Service was made from 1898 through about 1942, give or take. "The Book of Colt Firearms" by Wilson and Sutherland has an extensive section on the New Service. The monograph "Colt New Service Revolvers" by Murphy is dedicated only to the New Service and has great information, including a lot on the rare New Service Target and Shooting Master models.
  
  The New Service is one of the greatest American revolvers, one that many wish Colt had brought back chambered for the .44 Magnum cartridge rather than the ugly Anaconda.
