guns and the mail
say i was to to send a gun to my brother .... to my house to put in my gun cabinet could i just send through the mail... like go to the post office and send it???

I am certainly not the resident expert on this topic, but at 4 in the morning, the rest are sleeping[:D]. I think if it is in the same State it is ok. Out of state requires it go through an FFL. This is over simplifing things and I am not too sure of all the laws, the real experts will be along before too long.

I'm no expert either, but my friend is a Ohio sniper, I mean postal worker[:D], and I've heard him talk about guns going through the mail. Some made it to their destinations and others didn't, which could have to do with the to and from addresses (never asked although I know of one gun that looked better in someone other than the addressee's cabinet[:(]). Being that the experts are sleeping, if you need an answer I'd try the ATF or USPS sites.

If I am not mistaken, You may ship a firearm to yourself...even across state lines... but the package must remain unopened until you arrive at that destination to open it yourself..It should not be addressed to your brother.... 0 -
I don't completely understand the question. "to my house to put in a gun cabinet" doesn't make any sense.
In any case, I believe that you are really asking 2 questions: Can you transfer a gun to your brother, and can you do so through the mail.
The answer to the first question is found in Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide (ATF 5300.4). You can transfer a gun to your brother if he is a resident of your state, if the transfer is made in accordance with state & local law, and if he is not otherwise prohibited from receiving a firearm under federal law.
For the second question, refer to USPS Pub 52, section 432. Handguns are not mailable by nonlicensees. Rifles & shotguns may be mailed if the recipient is not prohibited by federal, state, or local law from receiving them.
So, to completely answer your question, we need to know where you live, where your brother lives, why you want to send him a gun, what kind of gun you want to send him, and if both of you are legally able to possess firearms.

Sir: If the Gun Belongs to you and it will go to your Gun Safe, and it is a Long Gun, it may be shipped US Postal. The USPS does not want the Package marked stating it contains a Gun or Weapon. Send it "Signature Conformation", no need to insure. And a Long gun can ship across State Lines. Remember: USPS Guidelines state clearly: "Do not Mark the Package as to what it contains". And I would suggest not saying anything to the Clerk ; Seems many Postal workers are as confused about the Issue as the General Public.

i bought a tec nine for like 200$ in chicago on vacation... and i want to send to my home ... im on vacation at a famly members house.. i live in california .. but i alwasy come to chicago so its liek a second home .. you no... and was just curious if i could send it through the mail.. even if i could sneak it though do they chek the packages ??? or like scan them 0 -
You cannot ship a pistol through the mails unless you are a licensed dealer (Neal Myers already told you this). You are also prohibited from bringing the TEC-9 into California. These pistols are classified as assault weapons under CATAGORY 1 of the states AW regulations and had to be registered by December 31, 1989 (with a few exceptions) in order to be legal here. The TEC cannot be registered now and is prohibited. Keep it where it is and do not try to sneak it through the mails since this is a serious crime: A fine and two years in prison...all that for a TEC? I don't think so! Even if you got the TEC into the state, you'd be in violation of California law and looking at another trip to prison...you no?

The TEC-9 is a definite NO! NO!, In Kalifornia. I would think anyone desirous of a Weapon of any type in Kalifornia, would be Invoking Wrath of the Minions of Avatar, upon themselves. Better to take up another Hobbie, Like "The Running form the Mugger Race" or Maybe the
"Pleading for Mercy" Game.
I have only shipped Hundred of Weapons via US Postal, (see Delta514 @ Gunbroker.com), there is no Reason to Pay Insurance unless we are talking about a very expensive piece, the "Signature Conformation" assures the Item will be Signed for and at the Prescribed Location. The US Postal Service has only Fouled up twice for me. One time: A Winchester 22 Pump sent to Alaska and they must have stepped on it, (the other), the Mail Person took the box in the Rain and the Letters washed nearly away, But my return address was still there. So! I always sent by USPS - Priority - Signature Conformation. I would suggest everyone do so. Remember, the PostMaster Generals request, "Do No put any discription on the Package, designating a weapon Inside". ( The reason for that, I think: too may were being stolen by their Personell).

SHADY5 , YOU CAN NOT , BY LAW, BUY A TEC-9 IN ILL. THAT IS A FELONY. YOU ALSO CAN NOT SHIP THE GUN TO ANYONE BY USPS. BE SAFE
