M14 mags, US made?
I am trying to determine if some M14 mags I have are of US manufacture.
The mags are marked as follows,
1) OM, (Winchester)
2) M, with a line under it and a line through half the M
3) UHC, this is in a semi circle (Union Hardware Company)
Of these three listed above there followers all are marked BW (Borg Warner?)
Now of these three (Winchester, Union Hardware Company & Borg Warner) do I assume they are manufactured in the US.
Also have some ten and five round mags I bought from Springfield, these have no markings.
Some other 20rd mags don't have any marking on them at all.
Now why is this important?
What I'm have is a Yugo M-90 (sporter AK .308 cal), with a after market mag made by USA mags, these are the ones Mitchell came up with around '95 that are made with M14 type bodies. I need to use this mag as three US parts to make this rifle US compliant.
Now these USA mags are very cheap, to make it more reliable I plan to change the follower and spring with M14 parts, their fore the follower must be of US manufacture so they will qualify as some of the required US parts.
Do I assume that USA mags are actually made in the US?
Thanks
Dennis

Mr.Artvls--
Please do not take this wrong--no insult is intended![:D] Your post has gone unanswered for quite awhile, and I like to see sincere questions answered promptly. Frankly, your question kind of boggles the mind. I know that you know what you are asking, but I, for one, am kind on at a loss as to what you mean.
Yes, of course, magazines marked with American markings are American.
Magazines that have no marking can not be conclusively identified; and for your purpose, as I understand it, are not useful.
USA Magazines were made in Downey, CA; and therefore are American-made. USA mags are cheap-o's, and usually not worth having.
Hope there is something here for you. Or, if we're not communicating--get back to us! [8D]0 -
Yes, I did take that commit wrong and I am quite insulted!
Now as far as the rest of your post it did answer my question. Thank you.0 -
I believe that the lack of responses is primarily due to the fact that few people are familiar with (or care about) the different manufacturers of USGI mags for the M14. I have some Winchester mags (OM), Checkmate Industries (CMI), and Borg Warner (BRW), but I am sure that there are others. Most shooters believe that any mag with initials stamped on the spine are USGI.
I have never seen markings on the follower or floor plate of any USGI mag, so I am unable to explain the markings on yours.
Most well-made unmarked mags are refinished USGI that had the markings buffed off, and they are dark gray/black. Light gray unmarked mags are Chinese. Blued mags are either foreign or US-made junk.
I understand your concern, but don't think that you should worry about it. BATFE has more important things to do than send agents out to count the number of US-made parts in rifles. They were just responding to a specific order from some fascist Congressional sub-committee chairman. BATFE was ordered to write a reg for a specific purpose, & they did it; it didn't matter if it made sense, or if they had no intention of ever enforcing it. It is more likely that you will win the Powerball Lottery than you will be asked to justify the content of any of your rifles.

Thanks Neal.
I knew BRW is Borg Warner, so I just assumed BW was the same just not sure. I'm sure your right about the parts count, this paticular rifle it is hard to find US parts, so making this USA mag work right will be good, as I need the three US parts count.

And the Federal Criminal Codes, state: Anything By Mitchell is an Assault Weapon, also the Remington Nylon 66 is a Center Fire. Are U getting the picture?
Makes one wonder if "THEY" are Stupid or doing these things on purpose. [?]
