Scopes
I'm wanting the best scope for no more than $750.00(unless there is a real standout that is worth an extra $50.00-$100.00).
I have a Leupold picked out. It is the VX III 4.5-14x50mm Long Range Side Focus with a 30mm Tube. I was also wondering if the illuminated model is worth the extra money.
I was also looking into Sightron but I can't seem to find a lot of information about them. Can anyone help me out here? Are they as good as Leupold?
Are there any other brands I should look at?
I'm using this for big game and varmint hunting, maybe some target shooting (nothing serious). The gun I am using is a Remington Model 700 308.
Any information/suggestions would be helpful.

I am looking for input on sightron scopes, good or bad? I'm looking at a S2 6.5-25x50 ao. This is a new brand to me. Can anybody help? 0 -
I have 3 of the BSA Catseye 3 - 10 X 44. I really liked the first one so I bought more. I feel that this particluar scope is a very good one if $ 90 is all you can spend. Mine have been monted on muzzleloaders & a shotgun - so it isn't like they haven't seen recoil. Better eye relief than most - optics probably about average for this price range.
I also have a 2 X 20 on a .22 pistol. Works well - no problems.
I'm sure you'll get lots of replies saying BSA scopes suck. Maybe most do, I don't know. I'm pleased with mine.0 -
Bushnell has revamped their entire line of scopes since they purchased the remnants of Tasco. Bushnell used to have some economical priced models but I don't see that anymore. They do have some New Tasco's they are marketing which are reasonably priced. You also have Simmons which is made in China as are the Tasco's. It is interesting to note that the Bushnell Scopes such as the Banner and Trophy are made in Korea.......! Seems all brands are "Imported" from somewhere no matter what they cost or charge for them!

You should take a good hard look at the Weaver Grand Slam series. They are getting some great reviews,...and so I had to go look at one myself. I took it outside the shop,...panned the filed,..and I was impressed for the money.
A 6-20x40 scope with that quality of glass for $325,.....great deal,..and far from the price of a Leupy.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

Also check out Bushnell Elites. I have two of the 3200's, a 4-12x40 I mounted on a .243, liked it enough to get a 5-15x50 for a .308 heavy barrel Howa I picked up. Natchez has either for under $270 last time I looked. Very clear, so far seem to hold poi well,lifetime warranty, also made in Japan.[:D] 0 -
SCOPES: BSA Platinum Series is Japanese while the BSA Contender is Chinese. I have found nothing wrong with the Platinum Series, and their Warranty is Excellent. 8x32 runs about $120 - $140.
I have owned the Elite 3200 and 4200 by Bausch & Lomb (Bushnell), with "Rainguard", Thes are fine scopes (No doubt) Pricey but still worth every penny. Their Clarity at Dusk is the Best I have ever witnessed.
I suppose WEAVER is my Preferred Scope Line, Dependability, Clarity, Durability, Affordability, and I require X-tra Fine Cross Hairs for my type of Shooting.
I would sugget either of the three, according to requirements and funds. [;)]

With optics, more than most things, you get what you pay for. Optics today are much better than they were 30 years ago across the price spectrum. This is largly due to coatings on the lenses. The real bargains are in the mid-priced scopes, as the differences between them and the top ranked scopes are noticable only at the extremes of use and the edges of the day. Thus, you would be better served to save a little longer for a better quality scope. The Grand Slam is a good choice, as are Pentax, Nikon and Burris.

Do a search for the Bushnell Scopechief. They are a discontinued scope and prices on the net have dropped way down on them. They make a 6-20x40 and a 4-14x50. Both are fully multi coated optics. When these scopes were being made they were considered to be just under the quality of the Bushnell Elites.

I have bought Nikon refurbished scopes that are in mint shape from a guy named mark on and off of ebay. He is great to work with and is very honest. You can email him at HuntElk4@cs.com and ask his prices. The Monarch line is great for the money and the refurbished scopes save you lots of money. I would not recommend it on a heavy recoil rifle like the ultra mags but would strongly recommend it for anything from a 30-06 on down.
I bought the boy one in a 3.5x10-50 Monarch and it was very close to being as good at dark as my Swarovski 3x12-50 and my Schmidt & Bender.
