ONWING A PISTOL IN NYC...THE REAL DEAL

Well first of all sell your handguns before you move. You can't possess here without a permit and where I am upstate, you must be a state resident for a year before you can even apply for a permit. Then you need characer refferences that are residents of the county you are applying in and they must have known you for a certain ammount of time. I believe it was two years, if I recall correctly. In the city you will have to hire a lawyer to get a permit. I looked into moving to the city as a temporary thing a few years ago. My permit from upstate wasn't valid in NYC. I was told to expect it to cost several thousand dollars to go through the process, then expect it to be denied unless I knew someone. If you did manage to get a permit, you would likely be limited to on premises possesion. No carry. If you did manage a very rare carry permit I've been told your travel is quite limited. For example, get your permit on Long Island, Brooklyn won't recognize it.

I'm not sure of the laws pertaining to long guns in the city. I believe certain if not all long guns require a permitand must be registered. Needless to say, I decided to stay where I was, rather than move downstate.

My suggestion if you must move to the NYC area, move to Conneticut.

If you're thinking about moving with your guns, I hope you don't mind having a drug dealer, rapist, child molester, etc for a roommate. Here a gunowner without the proper stuff is considered a bigger criminal than those guys. And they like to make examples.

And yes all handguns are registered here. They are listed right on your permit. You are not even allowed to shoot another persons gun unless it is listed on your permit.

Also if several years down the road you did get permission to have a handgun in NYC, that's what you would likely be allowed a handgun.

Had a CCW in Connecticut for my handguns. Moved to LI NY in 92 with my guns. Contacted the Licensing Bureau for a permit. They kept my guns for six months with the permit pending before I was issued a permit for target practice only. It's a tough State to own a gun legally. Schumer and clan just don't get it yet.
    Good Luck!

All I can say, after reading the draconian anti-Second-Amendment policies of New York City, is: SEIG HEIL!

Whatever happened to the part of the Second Amendment that says "the right to keep and bear arms shall not be *infringed*??"

And please---I don't want any fools out there to pull that old bullcrap argument about "It's not infringement, it's regulation". Saying you can't legally posess a firearm within the limits of a city without registration is CLEARLY infringement, because it's requiring you to perform some task IN EXCHANGE for merely KEEPING the arm, never mind BEARING it. And it's a fact that no local, state, city or Federal ordinance or law may infringe upon a Constitutionally guaranteed right---at least, according to the Supreme Court.

Oh, wait. I forgot. This only applies if you lived in America. I just remembered: we now live in AMERIKA. (Note the "k").

There are lots of issues: many gun models are outlawed in NYC, there's a lot of paperwork, a very long wait, lots of fees, etc. If you do a web search of New York Citiy's municipal websites, you can probably zero in on the various requirements.

I do know that CCW requires special "working" requirements: you carry valuables or money for your job or stuff to that effect. If you rent an apartment, you need permision from your landlord to have a firearm in it. There are services that can cut through the red tape. The rich and well-connected can get permits in mere days, the rest can spend upwards of a year or more trying.

Why are you moving so soon? The hotel sounded like a great gig.

quote:i recently bought online a 33 rd mag for my glock 17. I believe it's made by Shearer? I like it for practice, saves time reloading mags, although it does stick out quite a bit. Is there any legal problem if I choose to carry that loaded mag concealed with my weapon? I ahe a CCW in Fl.

This would be a problem in NY.

The more you carry, the more likely the Police will find one on you when they pat you down.

You might be able to get this past the pat down search.
