magzine capacity
What is the use of a magazine with a capacity of 30rds on a pistol like a Ruger of Sig? I realize that for Glocks you have the G18 & for Berreta you have the 93, but there's nothing like that for Rugers and Sigs.

The factory magazine for the Beretta 93R holds 20 rounds. SIG/Sauer offers a 20 round magazine for its P266 9mm pistol. For many years FN offered a 20 round magazine (Part #1150) for the High Power "Capitan" pistol with the detachable shoulder stock-- but these are seldom seen today. The Glock Model 18 uses a factory magazine which holds 33 rounds. I would be amazed if Ruger ever provided any 30 round magazines for its handguns. Back in the "old days" I remember seeing after market "gun show" magazines holding up to 50 rounds for many 9mm automatic pistols and all of them were junk. There is really no reason for extra capacity magazines beyond a certain point as the weight and bulk soon defeats any advantage the extra shots may provide. 20 rounds seem to be the upper limit for usable magazine capacity in a standard semi automatic 9mm handgun.

i remember seeing an add in a "cheaper than dirt" catalog for 30rd magazines for the 226 and P89. that's probably what the are, "pieces of dirt". 0 -

I did find the 33rnd Glock mags useful when my dept was on standby to assist LAPD in the post rodney king riots.
We went to LA in 8 man squads for 10-12 hr shifts.
We also took along "other" guns and ammo specifically for that type of environment.
As Mark mentioned above, for non-LE use, anything over 20rds is a bit of a waste.
Its been my experience that non factory mags are not reliable, and usually the more rounds they hold, the less reliable they are.
I have shot my 33rd Glock mags in the model 18, and they worked perfectly. I have also tried the Sherer mags, and they look nice but dont function well.0 -
Since the first hand cannons, more shots without reloading has always been a quest. While you may see no need for more than standard magazine capacity, many do. Why not just be happy with a single shot? Once you say you need more rounds than one, where do you stop? Any stopping point is arbitrary. Just one more? Just two more?
The limiting factor is convenince and reliability. I have managed to make some 30-round USA Smith & Wesson-pattern 9x19 magazines work so I can use them in my Kel-Tec Sub-9. Neat. An "assault rifle" (yes, I know it is not really) in a brief case!
Like having too much money, can one really have too much magazine capacity (assuming reliability and convenience)?0 -
I have some 30 round Mags for the Ruger, and the Kel-Tec -S&W - Marlin Camp Nine. I guess these things were simular to "The Full Auto" on an AR = It's for People that can't shoot.[:0]

had a 28-round Taylor drum magazine for my 1911 back in the early 80's. It is kinda cool to be able to go through 4 mags worth of ammo without reloading, although I could never get the full 28 into the drum. 0 -

Magizine capacity is a simple matter of prefe
rence. The number of rounds a matter of choice.
In my opinion, any regulated, Government contrived
number is an unconstitutional infringment on a persons rights.
High capacity mags should no be limited to Government agencies or law enforcement. The number of rounds between reloads can be very important, case in point, taping a pair of 40 round mags together for the M-16. Large amounts of ammo can be all important when the sh*t hits the fan. When we start excepting these limitations, where does it end? If these media and Government impossed limitations continue,
we will all be watching our guns being siazed and crushed. Much like the Aussies did when the Gun grabbers got thier way.
Kill all the lawyers and the world will be much better for it.0 -
Those who are critical of the use of large capacity magazines are all presumably single shot fans. After all, if some number more than one is too much, are not all numbers more than one too much? Any number is arbitrary.
Shooting for fun is one of the pleasures of interest in firearms. If someone has fun burning through 30-round magazines, is not that the point? I do not like someone telling me what fun I may have as long as it is not hurting someone else. How does it make me a moron if I burn through 30 rounds as fast as I can?0 -

It is the Individual Right to Own and Use Hi Caps, (as per the Constitution)
It is the "Individual Duty" to protect and defend those RIGHTS! (as per the "Constitution")

Lighten up Judge, see the little winking guy....My coment was not aimed at you....I don't have a problem with someone burning as much ammo as they please. The picture that came to my mind was of a regular at the range where I shoot that that has several 30 rounders for his Glock and burns through them never hitting much more than backstop...
