Pre-64 Model 70 value?
Would like to know the approximate value of an old model 70 in 257Roberts.Metal is in very good condition except the hood is missing off of the front sight and the wood is in fair condition with no deep marks on finish,thanks for your time,Bob.

I'm not an appraiser or a dealer but I've done a lot of price watching on pre-64 70's and see a significant premium on the .257 Roberts. They often sell for half again as much as .270s or 06's in similar condition. The .257 was less common than those, but not really rare. Not like the .300 Savage or 7mm. They are out there. Assuming it is a standard rifle and not Super Grade it would range between 1400 and $1800. Yours is probably somewhere in between. If its pre-war (serial under 51000)you probably can expect an additional 10%.

I think the 257 only came in the standard, carbine and super grade. Condition has a great deal to do with price plus what type of rifle or carbine you have. Production of the 257 is just under 15,000 compared to a 30-06 of around 200,000. Price is a hard call without seeing the gun. What you think is original may not be, unless you really know the model 70's well. I can see a nice standard grade bringing around 1000 give or take a little. PreWar will bring more of a premuim. 0 -
Deadeye, the 257 does bring a bit more ,,,,I have seen originals from 850 to 1200 depending on condition. I was fortunate enough to pick up a pre war 06 original in nice shape for under 600 with an old Lyman peep on it... Now I am looking for a 375 h&h...Thinking a 257 after that... 0 -
drl is right. I had occasion to purchase a High Grade .257 Roberts at the Flea Market. Price was ridiculous LOW. But after close inspection, damn! Someone had rechambered to 25-06, Ackley did the job for them. [;)]
