Value of AR-15

I'm considering a deal on a:

Pre-Ban Colt Sporter Lightweight. Colapsable stock, flash-hider, strap and case. It's in 9+++ condition... I may be the first to use it. What should I expect to pay?

  Sporter Lightweights are transitional guns. They will have blocked lowers and no bayo lug. They are not as desirable as other Colt AR's to some AR owners. I would suspect the range for this rifle to be $1100-$1500 depending on condition and local market. If a blocked lower and lack of lug is of no concern to you, these are good low cost pre-ban rifles and Colt name still inspires people to open up the wallet and let their $$$$$ fly out.

  What does a blocked lower do? What's the difference? What's the advantage to not having one?

  A blocked lower prevents the insertion of a small sheetmetal device known as an autosear. If certain M16 parts are installed, the autosear permits full auto fire. A few of these are legally registered (although I've never actually seen one), but most are not. Possession of an unregistered autosear and an AR-type weapon is a National Firearms Act violation.
  
  Since most of us do not want to spend a few years in a federal prison, lack of the ability to install something illegal is not a problem for us.

  So that's not a problem. As far as the bayo lug... if I can't shoot the damn bad guy with the 60 rounds I have on it... I'd probably miss with the bayonette as well. No loss there.
