In Ned Schwing's book, "Standard Catalog of Firearms" he mentions type 1 and type 2 slides for the Remington Rand pistols.
What's the difference?

  OleDuk, I believe a TYPE 1 slide was marked NEW YORK, a TYPE II slide was marked with a large N.Y., and a TYPE III slide was marked with a smaller N.Y.. and all three types were used on RR production between 1942 and 1943. The TYPE I pistols had barrels marked Colt .45 AUTO while the other types did not. TYPE I and II were sand blasted with a blued finish while TYPE III was sand blasted and phosphated. All types used Keyes Fibre stocks, but the TYPE I pistols had no rings around the screws. The mainspring housing on the first two types were checkered while the TYPE III housing was serrated. The early TYPE I pistols usually command a 30-40% premium over the TYPE II when in identical original condition. Like all US Property marked surplus firearms, most pistols have all been rebuilt (often many times) and I've seldom seen as AS ISSUED example. At an auction I attended last year there was a near new (an outstanding example-- the best I've ever seen in private hands) TYPE I RR sold for $1575. I hope this helps you.
